TECHENESIS: Overcoming State of Apathy and Digital Exhaustion
"We currently live in a world in constant exposure to digitization and technology, as this advancement embeds itself to our social norms, habits, and lifestyle. Recognizing the significance of digital tools in our day-to-day tasks and career advancement, the Philippines ranked third with the highest screen time among countries, tantamount to eight hours and 52 minutes of screen time. In today's hyper-connected world, we are increasingly reliant on digital technologies for information and social discourse. While it is beneficial with even mundane tasks, it entails an ensemble of challenges that may induce social or emotional distress associated with our prolonged exposure to gadgets, one of which is digital fatigue.
Digital fatigue manifests as a state of mental and physical exhaustion brought upon by the relentless influx of screen-based stimuli. The barrage of notifications and messages, the pressure of an "always-on" culture, and the endless scroll of information frequently lead to alarming levels of cognitive overload. Unhealthy doses of digital interactions do not foster healthy relationships with the self and the wider world. Instead of feeling empowered by connectivity, individuals are left feeling drained, isolated, and increasingly desensitized to the media they consume. This chronic digital exhaustion inevitably breeds a state of apathy—a detachment where active, meaningful engagement is replaced by passive consumption, ultimately diminishing productivity, mental well-being, and genuine human connection.
To address this growing concern, TECHENESIS: Overcoming State of Apathy and Digital Exhaustion aims to discuss the prevalence of digital fatigue as a critical phenomenon affecting people in this digital age. Scheduled to be conducted on March 8, 2026, via Zoom and Facebook Live, this webinar is designed to equip participants with the awareness and actionable strategies needed to reclaim their digital well-being as a collaboration with BUCS Peer Counselors Organization. By fostering a critical understanding of our technological habits, TECHENESIS seeks to empower attendees to break the cycle of exhaustion, overcome digital apathy, and cultivate a healthier, more intentional relationship with the digital spaces we inhabit daily."
