Sining sa Latag

"“Sining sa Latag” is an open activity for National Literature Month and Global Arts Day celebration, where creativity, community, and boundless expression of art are inspired. This event aims to bring people together in an open, relaxed environment where art is not confined to traditional spaces like galleries or studios, but instead flourishes under the sky, on the grass, and in the hearts of those who participate. By simply spreading picnic mats, we create personal canvases—inviting individuals of all ages to sit, reflect, and engage with their artistic side. The act of "unfolding" a mat symbolizes the unfolding of one’s imagination, allowing creativity to flow freely without judgment or limitation. This casual, inclusive setting encourages not only self-expression but also collaboration, as participants share ideas, techniques, and inspirations with one another. This event will commence on March 21, 2025, at Bicol University Commencement Grounds, 1 PM onwards. Different forms of arts will simultaneously perform all throughout the afternoon. These forms of arts include; Visual arts (painting, drawing, digital arts, photography, mixed media, and calligraphy), Performing arts (dance, music, and spoken word [FlipTop and spoken word poetry]), and Literary arts (poetry, fiction and nonfiction, playwriting, and storytelling). Participants can choose their own art forms (not limited to one) as soon as they can finish or perform their art works. Before proceeding with the art workshop, participants must fill in their names and chosen category respectively. Upon registration, there will be consent forms for posting their artworks on BU-UBC for UNESCO page. This will be handed over to the participants, ensuring the right credits are given to their art. This will also serve as a platform to showcase their talents and skills. During the workshop, participants are encouraged to actively participate and engage in their respective categories. Peer engagement, enhanced knowledge, respect for other artists, and enjoyment of the whole experience are musts. Every category has an assigned officer to facilitate. They are the ones who will explain the mechanics and guidelines. They will be introduced during the program proper. After the workshop, facilitators will collect and document all the outputs for posting. The awarding of the certificates to the participants and photo opportunities shall follow afterwards. This late Arts Month activity fosters a deeper appreciation for the arts by making it accessible, interactive, and fun. It breaks down the barriers between artists and audiences, turning everyone into a creator in their own right. Whether through painting, sketching, crafting, or simply observing, “Sining sa Latag” reminds us that art lives everywhere—and sometimes, all it takes is a mat on the ground to let it grow."
